one hour is not enough

Frack.

I originally resisted. A female Starbuck? No way! Human-looking Cylons? Bah!

Nothing could beat the original series. I grew up on it (well, at least for one season). There was no way the new Battlestar Galactica could compete with the original series.

That was a year ago. Then, a few weeks ago, I caught part of the miniseries pilot while surfing the channels. I gave it a chance. After all, I've found good things going down dark alleys before. I decided to relax, let go of preconceptions, and let something happen.

Happen it did. I've watched every episode since, including the full miniseries pilot, the encore performances and mini marathons of the half-dozen episodes so far. Whew.

The new Battlestar Galactica series on SciFi is absolutely, FRACKIN' awesome. It's not the "Starbuck and Apollo Hour" like the original series (but I have that on DVD, thank you). This is an intelligent, deep, human drama mixed with some inside humor ("Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."), a wee bit of geeky science fiction, and a whole lot of on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense.

The new series bears little resemblance to the original, but shares enough underlying themes to retain the name. It goes way beyond the old. It is an entirely different, better, and satisfying experience. It leaves you wanting more. It is filled with a rich story line and well developed characters. It is familiar, yet sparks the imagination. It is good.

I am hooked, line and sinker. One hour is not enough, and each week drags until I can once again flip the switch and board the Galactica.

p.s. I am a total dork, I know.
