So Long, Captain

I'm embarrassed to say, but I thought he was already dead-- Captain Kangaroo Dead at 76. And I also thought he would have been a lot older by now, too.

Being a child of the 70's, I was naturally one of his viewers. He always seemed a little more "real" than Mr. Rogers, but had a bit more weirdness to him. I mean really-- a moose that drops ping-pong balls on him? Not in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood!

I remember that we had a record (an "LP" for those of you who think there was nothing before cd's) of the Captain's, but it had some funky colorized black and white photo of him from what must have been eons ago (in reality, probably just the late 50's), and I just couldn't reconcile the image of a young Captain Kangaroo with the person I saw on t.v. Seems a little silly now, but I guess that's what happens when you grow older and wiser.

So long, Captain, and with you goes another fond memory of childhood.

TTFN.

p.s. Didjya notice I didn't bitch once about the cold weather? Didjya? Huh?

How could anyone be more "real" than Mr. Rogers??? Mr. Rogers was an icon to some of us - and still is!
