arrow root
A long while back, a friend of mine told me that the FedEx logo had a hidden arrow in it. I thought that was cool, since I had never noticed that. Of course, he didn't have anything with the logo on it to show me, so I had to force myself to remember this little factoid so that when I did run across one, I would look for the arrow.
Months passed. I would see the logo, but forget to look for the arrow. Or, when I would remember to look for the arrow, nary a logo was around. At this point, you are probably wondering, "Steve, just go to fedex.com, you idiot!"
Shuddup! It's my story.
Anyway, I eventually did see the hidden arrow, and today I ran across this interesting blog entry about the FedEx logo, the man who created it, and the hidden arrow. And it's from a guy named Steve.

Great interview - I've always found that logo to be quite stimulating as a graphic designer. Its simplicity, yet its incredible strength as a design element. To think there are still people (excluding present company) who still haven't, or worse yet can't, see the arrow just kills me. I can unsertand having to point it out, but even after that.
To look at some of the most classic designs and see the origins of them - even the most mundane, as in the original Grand Union grocery store logo - and the great stories behind each one. I love reading that stuff.

Yes, believe it or not. I can read.
In fact, I've read "Barnyard Dance" (my daughter's favorite book) about 6,789 times.
This week.
